Friends, one of the questions that I’ve asked myself over the years is why I and many others build models. A few years ago it occurred to me that, as a research psychologist, I know how to go about answering that question. If you’d be willing to help me out, I have a survey online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DNX3QKB. If you, too are a model builder and could spare about 30 minutes to complete the survey, I’d really appreciate it.
C&O Milepost 95.0
Station Number: 94
Code Number: 0142
For quite a while I had little information on Ferrandini other than that it was listed as abandoned in the C&O Index of Stations and Tunnels (1943, updated to 1969). I’ve since acquired many other sources that provide a little more information. Apparently, the stop was built to service the Ferrandini Vineyard and Winery (see the postcard image below). The earliest mention I can find of the station is a passenger timetable dated 1920. Ferrandini was part of a list of stations not shown in the main tables. Two other time tables that I own, 1923 and 1925, also list it in the list of stations not shown in the main tables. Ferrandini was also named in the C&O’s September 1934 List of Officers, Agents, Stations, Etc. Ferrandini did not appear at all on a 1937 timetable.
I don’t have any clear idea when Ferrandini was added as a station. The style of waiting shed shown on the poastcard was adopted by the C&O in 1902, but Ferrandini isn’t shown on any of the Valuation maps I’ve seen and they were prepared in 1916.

This map was prepared from U.S.G.S. topological maps, C&O track charts dated 1963, C&O Side Track Records dated 1937, a copy of the Side Track Records updated through the 1990’s, and C&O Valuation maps, also updated through the 1990’s.
