I have very little information on Pottomoi beyond the fact that it existed. The first listing that I have for it is in a 1906 Industrial Guide. Pottomoi was listed as a flag stop in a 1958 employee time table. The C&O discontinued its non-agency station in Pottomoi on June 5, 1944. I suspect that the Pottomoi station may have served an estate: the only road nearby is (and was) a private road.
Volume 59 of the Railway Age Gazette reported that eastbound train 46 derailed at Pottomoi on August 4, 1915. The engine and the baggage car overturned. The train was running at about 40 mph and derailed due to a misplaced switch. No one was seriously injured. The switch had been deliberately thrown by a boy who was subsequently arrested.

This map was prepared from U.S.G.S. topological maps, C&O track charts dated 1963, C&O Side Track Records dated 1937, a copy of the Side Track Records updated through the 1990’s, and C&O Valuation maps, also updated through the 1990’s.
