C&O Milepost 121.6
Station Number: 122
Code Number: 0184
The Holliday station took its name from a local landowner. The earliest mention of Holliday that I’ve found is in the alphabetical list of stations in the 1906 Industrial Guide. The 1937 Side Track Record listed a waiting shed and a 349' team track (track number 847) in Holliday. The C&O petitioned the State Corporation Commission for authority to discontinue handling freight here in late 1956. The shelter shed was still located along the tracks here in 1963, but was removed soon after.

This is the waiting shelter that used to stand in Holliday. It has been moved a short distance from its original location and the front was closed in. To the best of my knowledge, this is one of only two existing examples of the C&O’s standard shelter. The other is Teman. For a photo of one of these shelters in service, see the Chickahominy page. Hundreds of these small shelters were built to replace stations as passenger levels on the C&O declined. (2002 photo by Larry Z. Daily)
Maps |
These maps were prepared from U.S.G.S. topological maps, C&O track charts dated 1963, C&O Side Track Records dated 1937, a copy of the Side Track Records updated through the 1990’s, and C&O Valuation maps, also updated through the 1990’s.
